Not owning a car is a great way to stay fit, save money, and avoid loads of hassle. This is a blog with thoughts, photos, ideas and links about carfree life: walking, active travel, public transport, places and spaces - things that matter to everyone, but even more when you don’t own a car. Photos are by me unless credited. Forthcoming: book on carfree life. Meantime, get in touch via email at carfreelifeoutsidethebox@gmail.com or Twitter @carfreebrighton

White Night meets Halloween in Brighton
Typical Brighton – any excuse for a party! White Night is an all-night festival to mark the clocks going back. So it’s goodbye to British Summer Time, hello to those dark evenings. But at least White Night meant some choice opportunities, like the rare chance for a night-time visit to Brighton Pavilion. Plus around seventy other free events, mostly around the centre of the city. White Nighters joined Halloween-ers, with the “cultural quarter” rammed with pedestrians. Pity that the-powers-that-be didn’t go the whole hog and close the main streets in the city to traffic. Now that would have been worth celebrating.
