Carfree: Howard Jacobson

Novelist and winner of last year’s Man Booker prize for “The Finkler Question,” Howard Jacobson confesses to being overloaded with shirts, and spending his time at the gym sitting reading the papers. But in The Inventory in last weekend’s Financial Times magazine (20/21 August) he also says “I don’t have a car.” It’s not that he couldn’t afford it – the Man Booker prize is £50,000.
