Not owning a car is a great way to stay fit, save money, and avoid loads of hassle. This is a blog with thoughts, photos, ideas and links about carfree life: walking, active travel, public transport, places and spaces - things that matter to everyone, but even more when you don’t own a car. Photos are by me unless credited. Forthcoming: book on carfree life. Meantime, get in touch via email at carfreelifeoutsidethebox@gmail.com or Twitter @carfreebrighton

Living Streets Talk the Walk
Living Streets held its Supporter’s Conference in Waterloo, on London’s South Bank at the weekend. Click here for the Impact Report, which looks back at significant Living Streets developments over the last year. The keynote preso was from John Dales of Urban Initiatives, who talked the walk using photos he’d taken on his walk to work. Refreshingly for an urban planner, the leitmotif of John’s talk was, “Street life is wonderful, mysterious and complex. It can change in a few yards, and its quality depends on your mood, your mood and your agenda. One size never fits all…Design for how real people live.”
