Not owning a car is a great way to stay fit, save money, and avoid loads of hassle. This is a blog with thoughts, photos, ideas and links about carfree life: walking, active travel, public transport, places and spaces - things that matter to everyone, but even more when you don’t own a car. Photos are by me unless credited. Forthcoming: book on carfree life. Meantime, get in touch via email at carfreelifeoutsidethebox@gmail.com or Twitter @carfreebrighton

Ridesharing With BlaBlaCar
I just got an email from BlaBlaCar - a European ridesharing service with 2.5 million members, 500,000 of which share trips a month. It’s focussed on long distance travel for when people can't use public transport, either due to cost or logistical issues. I’m told that the company is very successful in France and is currently ramping up in the UK. You can help yourself and help them - the website not only has loads of useful information about the horrendous costs of car ownership, but brings together the folks who offer lifts and the folks who need ‘em. No need to own it when you can BlaBlaCar it.
