Not owning a car is a great way to stay fit, save money, and avoid loads of hassle. This is a blog with thoughts, photos, ideas and links about carfree life: walking, active travel, public transport, places and spaces - things that matter to everyone, but even more when you don’t own a car. Photos are by me unless credited. Forthcoming: book on carfree life. Meantime, get in touch via email at carfreelifeoutsidethebox@gmail.com or Twitter @carfreebrighton

Seen on a walk: A Parliament of Owls
I’ve taken a bit of a liberty with this post, in honour of it being the 29th of February, a leap day. In the same spirit of quirkiness, here are a couple of owls, spotted in Brighton and Hove. Apparently, the literary collective noun for a group of owls is a parliament. Two probably doesn’t equal “a collective,” and they weren’t together in reality, but they are on the blog - so here they are. The stencilled owl is in a prominent location in Brighton, and a lot more permanent than the chalk owl. Unlikely to be referring to Monty Python’s Owl Stretching Time, perhaps these are secret messages to Harry Potter enthusiasts?
