Not owning a car is a great way to stay fit, save money, and avoid loads of hassle. This is a blog with thoughts, photos, ideas and links about carfree life: walking, active travel, public transport, places and spaces - things that matter to everyone, but even more when you don’t own a car. Photos are by me unless credited. Forthcoming: book on carfree life. Meantime, get in touch via email at carfreelifeoutsidethebox@gmail.com or Twitter @carfreebrighton

A Member of Parliament Takes To The Street
Three cheers to Tim Loughton, Tory MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families in the Coalition Government. Not for anything he may or may not have done on the policy front, but because he holds a monthly surgery for his constituents on the road during Shoreham Farmer's Market. It’s a great example of how a street can be so much more than what Jan Gehl calls “a traffic sewer.”
