Not owning a car is a great way to stay fit, save money, and avoid loads of hassle. This is a blog with thoughts, photos, ideas and links about carfree life: walking, active travel, public transport, places and spaces - things that matter to everyone, but even more when you don’t own a car. Photos are by me unless credited. Forthcoming: book on carfree life. Meantime, get in touch via email at carfreelifeoutsidethebox@gmail.com or Twitter @carfreebrighton

Armchair Activists of the World, Unite*
I was interviewed a while back by Ruth Stokes, a freelance journalist and editor specialising in social and environmental issues whose work has appeared in The Guardian, the New Statesman, The Ecologist, Ethical Living, The Big Issue and Third Sector. Ruth was researching a book about Armchair Activists - “people who want to make a difference but don't necessarily want to chain themselves to railings to fight for what they believe in.” We talked about this blog, about www.giveupyourcar.com, about how carfree life is not just bearable, but better, and about behavioural economics and social marketing. “The Armchair Activist's Handbook” has now been published as an ebook on Kindle (and will also work with a Kindle app on a tablet, phone or laptop). Here's the link.
